Rita’s Story
In 2024, everything Rita owned was destroyed in a fire. She stood in the ashes with her daughter, feeling as if her world had crumbled. But even in that darkness, she promised herself and her child, “I’m
not stopping until we’re in a safe home again.”
Despite the chaos, Rita made every effort to keep it hidden from her daughter. “I’m still trying to make my kid feel like we’re not in a crazy period of our lives,” she said. Determined, she turned to ACCESS for help. There, the case workers became her lifeline. “They encouraged me when all I wanted to do was give up,” Rita recalls. “They helped me get a job and even found me interview clothes.”
The night before her first day at work, Rita couldn’t sleep. “I stayed up like a kid on the first day of school,” she said, excited but anxious. With the support of ACCESS, she began to rebuild her life, one step at a time.
Rita’s message to anyone in her shoes? “Keep going. You’ve got this.”
